Thingway

n. Scots ‘a thing, thingie (or, if you’re feeling very Scottish, a hing-way) that you want to describe, but just can’t seem to find the word for it in the moment’

Author your next Novel, Screenplay, Thesis, Fanfic, or even that Musical Magnum Opus. From concept to publishable and (if you're so inclined) print-ready work. The sky's the limit! Well, unless you take Thingway to space. But you'll have to sign up first to do that…

Jonathan Harker's Journal

I am Dracula; and I bid you welcome.

3 May. Bistritz.—Left Munich at 8:35 P.M., on 1st May, arriving at Vienna early next morning; should have arrived at 6:46, but train was an hour late.

I read that every known superstition in the world is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, as if it were the centre of some sort of imaginative whirlpool.

Listen to them—the children of the night. What music they make!

The castle is on the very edge of a terrible precipice. A stone falling from the window would fall a thousand feet without touching anything.

INT. CASTLE DRACULA — NIGHT

Dracula

Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own will!

We are in Transylvania; and Transylvania is not England. Our ways are not your ways, and there shall be to you many strange things.

I am all in a sea of wonders. I doubt; I fear; I think strange things, which I dare not confess to my own soul.

Love a passage but want to test new pacing? Keep both.

Writing is rewriting, as they say — so tap redraftable and write a second version right where the first one sits, then flick between them until you love one more. Every draft lives in the one file, in the same spot, and with no copies, no lost formatting, and no more folders filled with masterpiece-FINAL-v7-actually-final_final_thisistheone.docx

Chapter II

The Crossing

The loch keeps its own counsel. Whaur the ferry hings at the loch's mou, it waits on the licht — and the far shore stays hidden till the mist has a mind to lift.

Change a character, everywhere at once

Rename Tom to Amy — and every word follows.

Mark a character once and Thingway tracks the whole identity: their name, their aliases (nicknames, titles, whatever the other characters call them), and every he, him, his that belongs to them. Change your mind on page 300 (new name, new gender) and one tap rewrites all of it in place. Nothing else in the text is touched.

Chapter IV

The Duel

Write in a room you like

Not everyone writes best on a white page.

Some need candlelight, some need stark contrast, some need their own colours. Swap the whole look (colours, contrast, even the typefaces) in a single click. Six themes ship at launch, from candle-lit Dark Academia to a stark black-and-white print mode. Try a few:

Dark Academia Export
The last mile, handled

Finishing a book shouldn't need three other tools.

Most apps get you to a manuscript, then leave you exporting, reformatting, and fighting a separate program to make the actual book. Thingway does the last mile too. Structured templates hand you every page a book needs (title, copyright, dedication, about the author). The contents page builds itself from your chapter titles, every link already wired for EPUB. Then export a clean ebook or a pixel-perfect PDF, from your desk or your phone.

Built for the long haul

A million words. No slowdown.

Thingway isn't a desktop app with a phone companion — it's a phone app with a desktop release. The engine was built for the phone first, so a full fantasy epic or a PhD thesis opens, scrolls, and searches in a blink, wherever you are.

Chapter 1 — Loomings

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago—never mind how long precisely—I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world.

There is nothing surprising in this. Almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

Whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can.

Chapter 3 — The Spouter-Inn

Entering that gable-ended Spouter-Inn, you found yourself in a wide, low, straggling entry with old-fashioned wainscots.

A brave stove-boat, and a brave man in it, made a fine picture against the wall, and a lamp swung slow in the draught.

It was a queer sort of place—a gable-ended old house, one side palsied as it were, and leaning over sadly.

Chapter 36 — The Quarter-Deck

Aye, aye! and I'll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition's flames before I give him up.

Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee.

From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

The morning came, and the mist lifted, and the far horizon was as wide and open as it always was.
